Find out the answers to some of the most frequently asked questions for a better way to keep up to date with your service schedule.
When Should I Change My Oil?
Different vehicles and driving habits require different oil-change intervals, but most vehicles need an oil change every 5,000 to 7,500 miles or six months. You can get a better idea of the right interval for your vehicle by consulting your owner's manual. Our service team is also available to help you find the right time to bring in your vehicle based on your driving conditions and habits.
If you're unsure when your last oil change was or want to check the quality of your motor oil for yourself, you can use a clean cloth and the dipstick to determine the condition of your oil. Be sure to follow the instructions of your owner's manual and have the engine cool before removing the dipstick. The oil should be transparent and golden brown. Oil that is dark brown, clumpy, or milky needs to be removed by a professional.
Some of the other signs that indicate you may need an oil change include:
- Odd odors
- Rough idle
- Decreased fuel efficiency
Does My Car Need Brake Service?
We recommend you have your brakes checked every six months to catch any developing issues, and you should bring in your vehicle if the braking performance feels off in any way. Most vehicles need new brake pads every 25,000 to 65,000 miles and new rotors between 30,000 and 70,000 miles. However, the number of miles is just an estimate. You may need more frequent brake replacements and services if you drive with heavy equipment, navigate stop-and-go traffic, and come to abrupt stops frequently.
Some of the red flags that indicate you need brake service include:
- Long travel distance before the brake pedal engages
- Spongy braking
- Longer stopping distances and decreased stopping power
- Scraping or screeching sounds when braking
Do I Need a New Car Battery?
If it has been between four to six years since you replaced your battery, you most likely need a new battery. Our service team can use battery testing equipment to help determine the condition of your car battery and how much longer it may last. Our service technicians can also check and clean connections and cables to help you get the most out of your car battery before needing a replacement.
Some of the signs that you may need a new battery include:
- Engine cranks slowly or not at all
- Dim lights
- Vehicle needs a jump start frequently
- Battery light on dashboard is illuminated
When Should I Change My Tires?
Most drivers change their tires when changing seasons or when their previous tires are no longer effective. We recommend finding snow tires for winter weather conditions and summer tires to get the most out of your vehicle's performance. Maintaining enough tire tread is crucial for your vehicle's stopping distances, traction, and handling.
Most tires last around six years, but you should consider new tires if your tires have less than 2/32 of an inch of tread, uneven wear, or damage.
